  OUR STORY

Established in 1986 in the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh, Sports World Specialties has proudly served the city’s sports fans for nearly four decades. Over the years, the shop has changed hands and locations three times, but it has always remained rooted in Pittsburgh’s vibrant Downtown.

Current owner Dan Means took over the business in 2001, initially operating out of the Liberty Avenue location. In 2006, he relocated the store to its current home on Smithfield Street, where it has flourished ever since. With a passion for vintage sports cards and memorabilia, Dan brings deep expertise—especially in all things Pittsburgh sports. His knowledge and dedication have helped make the store a trusted destination for collectors both locally and online.

Sports World Specialties is a true family business. Dan’s wife, Gina, plays a key role in daily operations, and their son, Dominic,  recently joined as an apprentice, learning the ropes from his father. Dan and Gina are proud parents to four children—Gabrielle, Sophia, Dominic, and Penelope—and recently became grandparents to their first grandchild, Charlie. When they're not busy running the shop, the family loves spending time together and traveling.

At Sports World Specialties, we’re more than just a memorabilia store—we’re a part of Pittsburgh’s sports legacy, and we look forward to continuing to share that passion with our community.
